Open House Dublin 2013 – No. 31 Leeson Close

This past weekend was the annual Open House Dublin, where many buildings of historical and architectural interest are opened up for public viewing and guided tours. One of my favourite attractions for this Open House weekend is the muse at No. 31 Leeson Close, which renowned Irish Architect Sam Stephenson designed as his first home in 1958. It is now a guest house run by the very friendly new owners.
I only took detail photos unfortunately, as there were so many people around.

Body&Soul 2013

The Body&Soul Festival 2013 was held in June at Ballinlough Castle, Co. Meath, with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds as the headline act (which was awesome!). The new addition of the Midnight Circus tent this year featured a number of acts, as well as nightly performances from Lucent Dossier (featuring the brilliant Elaine McCague from PaperDolls on trapeze). Friends were involved throughout the festival too, creating the awesome decor for the Midnight Circus tent and art installations around the grounds. For more, see my gallery here.

A photo from right now, this booth is across the road from my front door. I was out taking photos of the full moon rising (great moon, mediocre photos) and this was the last photo of the night.

MACBA, Barcelona 2012

I have been going through some images from my Barcelona trip in 2012 again. Here are a few of Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art.

Ice Cap

A view over the  icy bogs on Djouce Mountain, with the Sugarloaf peeking out in the distance, and a close up view of the remains of an ice cap over bog.

Strobist Experimentation

I bought a flash about a year ago and have unfortunately only got around to experimenting with it on the odd occasion. Sitting it on top of the camera is easy enough (and can get complicated when you start looking into bouncing,  diffusing, gels, etc…), but what really interests me is off-camera flash!

So, there was an open invitation on g+ this morning for submissions of black & white photos. I got an idea into my head of making a minimalist image of my bicycle, using the flash to overpower the midday light in my the apartment. After a little post processing and converting to black & white I arrived at the image below.  Am I happy with the result? Yes I am. Can I do even better? Absolutely, and looking forward to it! 🙂
